KAPAI: Dare to dream - a child's God-given right
When ever I see the Ad on television showing Steve Williams living his dream of caddying for the world's number one golfer I always want to add my two bob's worth - "New Zealand where dreams come true and the man who makes the most money out of sport is a white man carrying a black man's bag." Yes I know, not very PC, but sometimes we need to lighten up when it comes to carrying the burden of believing in someone or something in life. Believing in one's dreams starts way back, well before we left school for the big wide world, and for most of us our dream weavers were our teachers who turned us into dream catchers without us realising it until one day we were living the dream. .
Des Moines: Some childcare centers to close early today
There will be no afternoon Head Start classes in Des Moines schools, due to weather, and some childcare centers around Des Moines are closing early today. The Day Care for Exceptional Children on Woodland Avenue will close at 2 p.m., staff there said. They serve about 60 children, ages six weeks to 21 years old. Part of their dilemma is staffing for extra students getting out early from school. "It's really for two reasons, the safety of our children and staff, and since Des Moines schools are closing 90 minutes early, kids would all get here earlier and that means inadequate staffing," explained Tina Goff, financial director. "We have some staff who come in at 3:30, so if they get out early, there wouldn't be enough staff here." She said staff have called or e-mailed all parents and almost all said they understood the situation.
